About The Ohio State University OSU is the third-largest university campus in the United States. Known as the Buckeyes, the Football program has been recognized by the university and NCAA-Division1 as having won eight national championships and has been playing in the Horseshoe since 1922. The greatest undisputed Buckeye of all time however was the great James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens (September 12, 1913 – March 31, 1980) who was an All American track and field athlete at Ohio State and won a record eight individual NCAA championships, four each in 1935 and 1936 and went on to become a four-time gold medalist in the 1936 Olympic Games.
